The Towers take the Tuesday Team League title on frame difference

Tuesday Team League

Congratulations to The Towers on winning the 2022/23 Tuesday Team League.

The Towers and Spot On Hucknall finished level on 24 points but with The Towers having a superior frame difference (+4), they just needed to win 5 frames in their last match and they delivered. BCI B pushed them all the way though and there were some nervous moments during the match before Bob Gould got the team across the line. The Towers have won by some heavy margins this season and this really made the difference coming into the closing stages.

Match Reports

The Towers beat BCI B 5-3, Notts Amateur SC champion Andy Diacopoulos scoring well with runs of 81 and 36 in winning his frames for The Towers. Bob Gould doing the damage at the end for The Towers in winning his frames against Paul Wainwright Jnr. Great win for BCI’s Shaun Kilkie against the excellent Rob Mulliss. Rob has been a recent addition to the The Towers team following Andy Taylor’s health issues. We look forward to seeing Andy back on the baize soon and wish him well with his recovery. Well done to Dan Moll and team on a great season.

Commiserations to Spot On Hucknall, despite a fantastic effort in defeating Spot On Reds 8-0 last night. Solid wins for the Hucknall team against an always “dangerous” Reds team. Daz Clarke on fire against an in form Moe Anyanwu with a sublime 48 break in the first frame. What a great match this was with both players scoring well. Patrick Ashurst made a 40 break against Manfred Corbin. Wayne Martin and Ben Cooper both winning their games against Rob Garratt and Cary Davies respectively. It wasn’t to be for Hucknall but they pushed The Towers all the way and made it an exciting season. Well done to Daz Clarke and his team.

Welcome Institute beat Arnold Civil Defence 5-3 and the victory moves Welcome Institute above Phoenix Cue Sports into third place on frame difference. Good wins for Vinnie Dennis and Martin Caunt against Arnold captain John Fountain making the difference on the night. If Welcome Institute can avoid a 0-8 defeat in their re-arranged match away at Spot On Reds, they will hold on to that third place. [edit – Welcome Institute drew 4-4 with Spot On Reds so they do indeed finish 3rd]

BCI Masters secured a crucial point at Phoenix Cue Sports thanks to a 4-4 draw. Ben Monk was in good scoring form against Ashley Field. Ben having a run of 47 in his second frame. Steve Capewell in ominous form again in defeating BCI captain James Robinson. Keith Waterhouse and Bryan Robinson sharing the frames. The surprise package of the night being 12 year old Jacob Reynolds defeating the fast-improving Sam Burton in his first two league frames. The draw brought BCI Masters level with BCI B on both points and frame difference, which means that BCI B finish bottom of the table due to the teams’ head-to-head results – BCI Masters beat BCI B 10-4 on aggregate over the two matches played.

One to Watch

12 year old Jacob Reynolds (pictured below) made his debut for BCI Masters against Phoenix Cue Sports and he won both of his games against Sam Burton. What a debut for the younger brother of Joe Reynolds – that family has some skills! We will be keeping a close eye on Jacob to see how he develops.

And finally…

Finally, if you could complete your outstanding games as soon as possible I can get the final league positions published. [edit – results now included below and final table also now published below]

Although we put this season’s league together very quickly, it has been one of the most memorable.

Great to see some new teams and venues in the league, the standard has been super-high and competitive.

Thank you to all of you, especially the team captains for helping get things together and creating a fantastic league competition.

Jon Shapland will be organising a summer league, please reach out to Jon to get your teams entered.

Details of this will be out shortly.
