What A Turneround

Singles League

What a difference a couple of weeks make...in the last round of Premier Division matches Jason Turner lost heavily to Gary Spencer but he put that result firmly behind him with a terrific result against Nav Hussain.  Turner perhaps feared the worst when Hussain helped by a 30 break took the opening frame but the Oakleigh Lodge player responded well to roll of the last three frames to record his first victory of the campaign.  In the other premier division match Chris Piech battled well against league leader Gary Spencer coming from behind twice to ensure the points would be shared.  Spencer had got off to a flyer by making 64 clearance in the opening frame but a in-off on the pink in the final frame gave Piech a lifeline which he grasped. In Division One Mike Langdon was pegged back twice by Adam Goodall who picked up his first point this season whilst Neil Elliott moved into second spot with a excellent 3-1 victory away to James Notman.  Yasin Abbas kept his 100% start going in Divison Two with a good 3-1 win at home against Eric Towle and Jordan Parnham picked up his first win with a resounding 4-0 win over Sean Croft.  In the other match in the division Shaun Parkinson and Spider Wilkinson played out a two all draw.

Knockout Competitions Round-up

Stadium's Clary Plowman and Pete Gormley caused a huge upset in the Handicap Pairs Knockout by beating the much fancied pairing of Chris Brooks and Jamie Mathers.  The Stadium pair held onto their 42 start by playing some excellent safety and picking off what they could to keep the Pegasus Pair at bay in the shock 2-1 away victory.  Arnold's Gary Spencer and James Notman came through a tough examination by Cotgrave's Harry Briody and John Cyrek.  With the match all level a superb 43 break from Notman saw the Arnold pair safely through to the next round.  In the two other matches to round-up good wins for Chris Piech and Mike Langdon against fellow club-mates Steve Booth and Andy Orange and a good two nil win away from home for Stadium's Steve Butler and Matt Ellis against Sherwood's Garreth Evans and Mick Salton.  In the Singles Championship defending champion Chris Brooks took under an hour to dispatch Pegasus team-mate Mike Langdon three nil helped by breaks of 59 & 53.  Yasin Abbas continued his excellent start to the season by beating BCI's Wong Yip 3-0 and knocked in a superb 55 break in the process.  There was plenty of drama in the all Arnold tie between James Notman and Malc Belshaw.  With the scores all level Notman won the match on a re-spotted black.  Chris Winter enjoyed a solid three nil win over Jason Turner and Jonathan Mason won by the same scorline against Jordan Parnham.  Lots of matches to catch up with in the Handicap Singles Championship starting with the tie of the round which was won 2-1 by Arnold's Chris Winter against former pro Wayne Martin.  Jamie Mathers knocked in a good 47 break as he beat Garreth Evans 2-0 whilst Spider Wilkinson took Nav Hussain all the way but was eventually beaten two-one. There were excellent two nil away wins for Oakleigh Lodge's Ryan Cooper against Matt Ellis and Scott Bates who beat Shafiq Mohammed.  Pete Gormley beat Shaun Parkinson 2-1 whilst the all Sherwood encounter was won by Ant Scarborough against Brendan Murtagh.  Last seasons singles championship runner-up Zeb Ahmed crashed out to Malc Belshaw whilst BCI's John Bednall lost 2-1 at home against Beeston's Sam Taylor.

An excellent report Mike, you're doing a cracking job running these tournaments.  I think The Sun would be proud of those headlines  ;D
