Congratulations to Keith Holgate who succesfully defended his MDB Open Singles title by defeating Wayne Martin 3-0 on Friday evening at Gotham Match Room.

Keith Holgate & Wayne Martin with the MDB Open Singles Trophy

Frame 1: Holgate 70-54 Martin
A nice 40 break by Wayne Martin in the opening frame gave him a good lead but Holgate managed to reduce the deficit to just 2 points with the help of a 15 break.  Holgate then potted green, brown and blue to go 10 points clear and after a good safety battle he dispatched a long pink to take the frame.

Frame 2: Holgate 61-19 Martin
Holgate started the second frame strongly with a run of 25.  Further steady scoring followed whereas Martin struggled to find any form.  Holgate potted the last red to go 42 points clear and Martin duly conceded.

Frame 3: Holgate 65-53 Martin
The third frame was very cagey and it contained lots of good snookers and safety play.  Holgate had a terrific chance to clinch the frame but after potting the last red and the pink he snookered himself on the yellow.  Martin then had an excellent chance to clear the table but after potting yellow, green, brown and blue he over-ran the cue-ball which left him a tricky pot on the pink into the middle.  He rattled the pink in the jaws and Holgate stepped up and potted pink and black to take the frame and match.

Holgate also picks up the high break trophy thanks to his fantastic 90 break in his last 16 match against Shaun Parkinson.

Both finalists will be presented with their trophies at the NBSA Golf Day and Presentation Dinner which will be held at Oakmere Park Golf Club on Tuesday 30th July 2013.  CLICK HERE for details.

Firstly I'd like to thank Steve for hosting the final at his Gotham Match Room, as ever the conditions were great, and Steve reffed  faultlessly - the best performance of the night.
Secondly, whilst Steves report was accurate he failed to mention Wayne's other opponent tonight - the run of the balls, I managed to fluke four balls during the match, whilst Wayne seemed to be potting good balls and going in off!
It is always a pleasure to play Wayne, one of our best cueists without a doubt. But this wasn't Wayne's night, apart from the bad run of the balls, Wayne struggled to get going properly.
Wayne made the highest break of the night, a good 40, and hit me with some great safety in frame three, but struggled through the rest of the match.
Meanwhile, I managed to string together a couple of mid twenty breaks, and play some good safety.
Apparently the live feed seemed to freeze during the match - it didn't, I just don't move very quickly!
