The Phyllis Bell Trophy (21/12/14)
« on: 21/12/14, 22:11 »

Congratulations to Tom Goldstein (+7) who defeated Steve Butler (+14) 2-1 in the final of The Phyllis Bell Trophy on Sunday evening.  A terrific 52 break by Goldstein in the deciding frame effectively won the tournament and sealed his place in the end-of-season Champions Cup.

A record turnout of 31 players made for a great atmosphere and it looked like everyone had an enjoyable day.

The quarter-finals were pretty one-sided, although Nick Kirkman pushed Goldstein all the way and came close to knocking the eventual winner out of the tournament.  Ant Moore had an impressive 2-0 win over Jamie Moore and on any other day Vinnie Dennis could have defeated Steve Butler.  It was nice to see a 21 handicapper do so well.

Joe Reynolds made the day's highest break, a 76 clearance against Tony Morgan in their quarter-final encounter.  Reynolds was in impressive form and he was unlucky to lose to Butler in their semi-final.

Thanks to everyone who came.  Once again it was a pleasure to run this one-day tournament and I hope to see you all at the next one, the Trevor Steeples Shield on 25th January 2015.  The venue will be announced nearer the date.

A huge thanks also to Julian, Lynn and all of the staff at Spot On Cue Sports for their hospitality.

Cheers Jon.  It looks like you played much better today.  If you had beaten Jamie Moore, you would have qualified for the quarter-finals!
