The Spider Trophy (16/11/14)
« on: 16/11/14, 22:54 »

Congratulations to Troy Brett (0) who defeated Joe Reynolds (+14) 2-0 in the final of The Spider Trophy on Sunday evening.  Brett also made the day's highest break, a run of 60 in his quarter-final encounter with Bo Murtagh.

Frame 1: Troy 77-51 Joe
Frame 2: Troy 68-39 Joe

All nineteen competitors seemed to really enjoy the day.  Many thanks to the staff at The Towers for being great hosts.

There were some great performances and virtually every match I saw was very close and "could have gone either way" so to speak!

Particularly impressive was Joe Reynolds who played very well and reached a final in what was his first tournament for quite a while.  He gave Troy a run for his money that's for sure.  In the first frame of the final Troy made a 40 break but Joe came right back and took it all the way.  Great attitude from Joe all day too, a smile on his face throughout.

Also impressive was Bo Murtagh who didn't believe me when I told him he had qualified for the knockout stages!  Freddie Mulheron who came very close to making the semi-finals and was the only player to take a frame off Dave Jobling in the group stages.  Wayne Smith who dominated his group.  Clint Broome who didn't lose any of his four group matches but just missed out on the knockout stages due to the impressive Troy and Joe being in the same group.

Of course Troy was just too good for everyone on the day.  Well done Troy!

Thanks to everyone who came.  It was a pleasure to run this tournament.  I hope to see you all again at the next one, the Phyllis Bell Trophy on 21st December.  The venue is likely to be Spot On Sneinton.
