I have been busy talking to various golf clubs in the area and taking everything into account, ie. standard of course, facilities and price, I have decided upon Springwater Golf Club near Calverton as the perfect venue for the inaugural?.

NHSL ANNUAL GOLF DAY AND PRESENTATION DINNER

Having played in golf society?s at Springwater myself, I can confirm that it is an excellent venue and we can be assured of a very well organised event in quality surroundings with splendid food.

I have received a few replies to my global email from which I wanted to get rough idea of interest levels and the few responses I have received so far have been promising.

The ideal day for the event is a Monday.  This is because it would cost less, however if people are prepared to pay more we could have it at a weekend.  Whatever day of the week we hold it on, I would suggest the following format:

1.30pm ? arrival (possibly with bacon sandwich and coffee)
2.00pm ? tee off (probably shotgun start so that everyone starts and finishes at the same time*)
6.30pm ? golfers finishing and non-golfers arrive ready for the meal
7.00pm ? two or three course meal
8.00pm ? presentation of snooker trophies, prizes and golf prizes**

Anyone not wanting to play golf or anyone who cannot get the day off work can just turn up for the meal at 6.30pm.  The cost for anyone not wanting to play golf would be nominal but we would have to charge something to ensure that we don?t get lots of people saying they are coming and then not turning up.

The whole event will be professionally organised and compered by Springwater staff.  All we need to do is turn up and enjoy ourselves!

The cost would be just ?10 per person which will be payable up front and non-refundable.  The remaining cost would be paid for by the league.  The ?10 includes 18 holes of golf and your meal which is a bargain for a course of this standard.

You should also note that non-golfers will be accomodated.  Golf clubs can be hired on the day and if you don?t think you?re up to playing the full 18 holes you can drop out at any time.  At ?10 it would still be excellent value even if you only played 9 holes.  The main thing is that everyone enjoys themselves.

In addition, if anyone wanted to bring a guest along for the golf and/or dinner, they would be most welcome.  A few people have already suggested bringing friends and family along.  They may need to pay slightly more but this can be sorted out nearer the time.

*a shotgun start is where groups tee off on different holes all at the same time.  They then progress around the course in the normal way until all 18 holes have been played

**golf prizes would be awarded for best score, nearest the pin and longest drive.

I would welcome everyone?s thoughts on this.  I would like to pay a deposit as soon as possible so that we don?t miss out.  At least let me know if you are ok with it being held on a Monday rather than a weekend.  The provisional date for this event is:

Sounds great...Disappointed that there won't be a prize for the 'most lost balls' though, as i think i'd be a banker for that award.

What is the dress code at this course?

Congratulations on becoming a black ball member!

I can tailor the day to suit us so if anyone can think of any other prizes let me know.  I'm sure we can have one for the most lost balls, but some people will probably lose a load on purpose just so that they can win a prize!   Grin

Not sure about the dress code yet but they're pretty relaxed.  It will probably be trousers/tailored shorts, shirts with collar/polo shirts and shoes/golf shoes (no trainers).  Most people will be able to borrow a set of golf shoes if they don't own any, the course may also hire them out.

Let me know if Michael Holt and any of his friends can come.  We'll pay for them if they do.  I can also contact the Evening Post for a few photos!

Mmmm Black ball member. Not sure congratulations are in order perhaps commiserations on having no life and being a bit of a loser might be more appropriate  Wink

I reckon we might need a rough idea of abilitity for this golf day as it could be a bit embarrasing for the likes of me if having to share a round with a really good player or two. I probably play of a 20 handicap for the record.

Cheers

I would imagine that with a 20 handicap you will be one of the better players!

If this had been an 'old' style presentation evening when wives, girlfriends, partners and supporters would have attended and they would have been invited to help themselves to the subsidised buffet - is the same to apply at the presentation dinner - can they be considered for the subsidised meal, paying the nominal ?5 ?.

Please bear in mind that I have not yet agreed prices or a specific package with the golf club.  I would anticipate, based on initial estimates from the club, that the price for the golf + dinner would be ?10 with the remainder being paid by the league.  However, I am not at this stage able to say what the cost will be for anyone just wanting dinner.  Alan asked me how much I thought this might be and I said I would not expect it to be more than ?5 but this is just my estimate and is not an agreed price.

Please be patient, I am trying to get package details and prices from Springwater and I will update you when I have it.  Until I see it in writing I will not be committing to anything and if they come back with a price that is not acceptable I will follow up my negotiations with other golf clubs.

As soon as I have any concrete pricing and package details, I will let you know!

The absolute latest deadline for the golf day and presentation dinner is

FRIDAY 11TH JULY 2008

I cannot accept any entries after that date because the golf course needs to know numbers by then.

If you don't want to miss out I will need your payment and booking form by Friday.

A reminder also that all golfers must have their own clubs and proper golf shoes.  Dress code is shirts/polo shirts with collars.  No jeans or trainers allowed.

Golfers

We have 30 golfers on Monday.  The first tee-off time is 1.39pm.  We will be teeing off in groups of 4 at 9 minute intervals.  Please ensure that:

  • You arrive by 1pm to allow yourself time to sign in and eat your bacon cob prior to tee-off.
  • You have your own set of clubs and golf shoes
  • You abide by the club's dress code - no trainers, jeans, tracksuits or collarless shirts.  This dress code applies both on the course and inside the clubhouse.

Dinner

We will be sitting down for dinner when the final group of golfers have finished their round, showered and changed.  I estimate that this will be between 6.30pm and 7.00pm.  Therefore, all guests who have paid for dinner only (non-golfers) should arrive at the golf club between 6.30pm and 7.00pm.  We will be sitting at tables of 10, this will ensure that everyone will be seated with their team-mates.

Please remember the dress code - no trainers, jeans, tracksuits or collarless shirts.  Polo shirts are fine.

Presentation

The trophy and prize presentation will take place immediately after dinner and it will be well organised to avoid a late finish.

Prize Draw

A prize draw will take place during the presentation.  Feel free to donate an item or two for the draw.  You can hand your donated items to me upon arrival.  Make sure you bring a little cash for the draw and a few drinks!

Directions to Oakmere Park Golf Club

The golf club is located just off the A614 between Nottingham and Mansfield.  If you are heading north you will turn right off the A614 towards Oxton.  For a map, visit the Oakmere Park website by clicking here and selecting ?Directions? from the menu.

NO!

See you all on Monday.....

The day proved very enjoyable for everyone who took part and the league is planning to make this an annual event.  Mrs Chapman, the President?s wife, commented afterwards that the day was reminiscent of events she used to organise over twenty years ago when hundreds of league players and their wives used to decend on The Heart of the Midlands (now Rock City) for a presentation dinner and dance.  She recalled that three coaches had to be laid on to provide transportation from Cotgrave alone - how times have changed!

yeah well done Alan....great photo's that really captured the day.

Must say it's good to see snooker players drinking pints rather than all that bottled water you see nowadays!

Really enjoyed the day and would like to thank Steve and the committee on organising a great day.

well done
