Shaun Parkinson  3 - 1 Nick Kirkman

Nick won the first frame then his game just got worse and worse from then on,  not even able to pot a single ball in the next three frames and conceded the match in the final frame when missing a vital black. Shaun did nothing wrong potted what was in front of him knocking in a  couple of 25 breaks mid frame and a 20+ and fullly deserved to win.

Just hope my form changes soon never played this bad for a couple of years but I guess it happens, roll on 2 weeks time for my next match.

Well Done Shaun. :welldone: :bravo:

Nick Kirkman

Nick still looking for his first win of the singles league and needed to start winning soon and was always going to be tough against Cary as we have played a few times before and never been much in it.

Frame 1

Cary started off really well with a 34 break and soon went 40+ points in front then Nick started to pot some balls for once and scored a mini break of 25 to get back into the frame with just brown to black left it was pretty even. Nick missed an easyish brown and then Cary potted the four colours to make it 0-1

Frame 2

Cary again started off well but Nick quick to reply to keep the frame scores even then Nick got into the balls and put together three 20+ breaks together 22, 25 and 29 to take the frame. 1-1

Frame 3

This was a quality frame both players scoring well Cary having two 20+ breaks to take  a lead Nick then had a 34 and a 29 break to go into the lead on the colours the frame still ultra close, it all came down to the black. Cary playing an up and down safety on the black only to leave it a fraction short. Nick elected to take on the long black and it went in to take the third frame. 2-1

Frame 4

This frame was all to play for, for both players Cary looking to get  a point out of it and NIck hoping to get his first win. Again Cary gets going first with a 29. Nick replied with a 20+ and then took the lead with another 20+ but Cary fought hard and got back infront it was a fifty fifty frame Nick potted red black red pink yellow green brown and then taking on the long blue off its spot trying to screw all the way back to the black cushion for the pink which would be frame ball,  Nick cueing this tough shot for a few seconds, dug the cue deep smashed it as hard as I could and it just missed the pocket by two and a half feet and went round the angles and landed in the black corner pocket, sorry Cary ;) 3-1

I'm glad I won and although it was a fluked blue but maybe overall a 2-2 would have been a fairer result but i'll take what I can the way I'm playing but I did play better tonight maybe on the road to recovery.

Thanks to Cary for the match I thought he played well and pushed me all the way. I know you can play better so I'm looking forward to our return leg. :bravo:

Mike langdon 2-2 Nick Kirkman

We decided to have a warm up frame as we both got there early and Mike was potting everything in sight I was even contemplating conceding the warm up frame with 4 reds still on the table   as anyone conceded a warm up frame before? I thought i'm in for another nightmare tonight.

Frame 1:

Mike broke off and Nick with his first visit put together a really good 40 break and was unlucky with position on the black and no other colour to go at. Nick maintaining the lead and Mike requiring a snooker on the colours and getting one but after a few safety exchanges Nick wrapped it up.

Frame 2:

Nick got a good lead early on and extending it all the while,  again Mike needing a snooker on the colours. Nick rolled the yellow to the corner pocket but some how the yellow came back up the table and potted the white in the centre. Again after some more safety from both players, Nick then managed to wrap it up to go 2-0 in front.

Frame 3:

Mike got going early in this frame getting a couple of 16s to take a commanding lead and not letting Nick get a sniff in this frame, by the time Nick got a chance after a good long pot on a red but then missed an awkward  black which meant Mike had good position to wrap the frame up and went some 60 points in front with a couple of reds still left Nick conceded the frame. 1-2

Frame 4:

Nick started really well in this frame and was about 39 points in front with 3 reds left and looking good for a hard fought victory. Mike the Grinder plugged away playing some nice safety. Eventually it came down to one red left and mike was 26 points behind, Nick played what he thought was a good weight on the red for a snooker only to see the red get an amazing bounce off the top cushion to finish in open play to give Mike possibly one last chance to snatch a draw. He potted the red and potted the blue but fell awkward on the yellow but to his credit he went for it and played it really well and landed on the green which he also pots then had a tough brown to the middle which he also got then played a long bue to the corner leaving himself a long pink which he also got then had a long black to the corner which he needed to save himself from defeat and he buried it.  Under pressure and considering he wasn't at his best it was a great 33 clearance and much so deserved the draw on the night :welldone: :bravo:

Obviously I was a bit dissapointed not to get the win but I think that clearance even things out. Considering also neither of us are having a great season I think it sometimes takes a hard fought match to ignite your form, I certainly felt I was well on my way back to playing better again which is a relief.

Really enjoyed it Mike good luck with the remainder of the season and looking forward to our next match back at my place.

Yep I agree Nick defo positives to take forward and we can both hopefully kick on from here. The division as expected is very tight although someones gonna have to reign in Anthony McMahon as he's looking very dangerous.

Well played mate I think you just shaded it on the night and was it not for that freak clearance I have no doubt you would have closed the match out. Looking forward to the rematch.

Cheers

Nick Kirkman

Having just played the pairs game against chris and Gary and being absolutely thrashed I wasn't particularly looking forward to the prospect of playing (the tough) top of the league player Ant Mcmahon.

Frame 1: I break off and the white goes straight into the reds, Ant straight on the case and opened up the scoring with a 22 as the frame progressed it got scrappy as all four frames were. Nick found himself 38 points behind with 3 reds left. Nick took all three reds two blacks and a yellow plus a yellow but could'nt quite get on the green which may have helped me finish off  a great comeback. Now back in the frame just 17 behind played a safety. Eventually Ant took the green which meant he needed the brown and I needed all four to win after a lengthy spell of safety I managed to pot the brown but missed an easyish  blue. After another bout of safety Ant sinks it to take a 1-0 lead.

Frame 2: Again Ant gets in very early Nick trailing and really beginning to struggle with his potting missing some very easy but unexpected chances.  Nick getting even more frustrated as the frame went on and nearly smashed his cue    Ant prevailing comfortably in this frame and could see and understand the frustration. 2-0

Frame 3: Went to cool off and have a fag ;) (usually works) Ant yet again gets off to a flying start and led all the way with a series of 20+ breaks but missing balls you just don't miss. A critical moment came in this frame for Ant he had a black top side of the middle bag and played for it but fell short which meant he had to take the blue but ideally needed the black on the spot as all the reds were down there two shots later he broke down. Nick then was able to pick up a few points using the pink with a few delicate cuts to the middle bag and for once they started dropping in.  Nick still trailing in this frame having put together a 16 and 21 then potted the remaining colours down to the pink to pinch  the frame.  2-1

Frame 4: Now it was game on, Nick feeling a bit better he managed to pull a frame back when it looked certain to go 3-0. Nick this time started the better but that didn't last long as Ant Got to work and yet again opened up a sizeable lead and looked to be going very well until he potted a cracking green but cannoned into the yellow which left himself in a bit of trouble with 5 reds still left on the table, he looked for a shot where he could place the white to protect his lead.  He left the white over the black corner pocket a couple of inches away from a red slightly off the cushion. Nick considering he got so far behind in this frame and thinking its just not my night, instead of playing off it for the usual safety behind a baulk coulor decided to take the pot on along the cushion behind the black and potted it and landed nicely on the black, Nick then proceeded to pot 5 reds, 4 blacks and a pink and then the yellow and green only to fall 2 inch short of the baulk line for an easy brown and a more than likely 66 clearance, which would have made me feel better the way I have played  but missed a thin cut on the brown into the yellow pocket and the white going in off into the centre. Break ending on 44 but was more than enough to win the frame and force a very unlikely draw. 2-2

To sum it up we both played crap, we both were freezing because the radiators went off while we were playing we both had bouts of frustration missing rediculous balls but I think I can safely say I'm sure Ant will Comment 2-2 on reflection was possibly the right result.
WE both obviously can play better but I was definiately the lucky one tonight to get out with 2-2 Ant will definiately feel he should have won and may regret taking his foot off the pedal. I usually get out the blocks quick but wasn't the case tonight,  Ant on the other hand usually slow out and finishes strongly so a weird type of match.

Thanks Ant for the match it will be better when I come to your place.  Good luck with the rest of the season.

Thanks Sean H. and Sean C. Sometimes you wonder at the end of a match like that why is it you can't play like that from the beginning, why did it take 2 and a half frames before I started playing properley!!!!

I would have took that scoreline before the match so obviously I'm pleased with it.
I'm getting back into form but in snatches been having 70, 74 58 49 breaks in practice over the last week or two but also been missing balls over the bags but I feel it will all come together soon. Just a matter of time.

Sean C. I was looking forward to the league match tomorrow night,  its a shame its been postponed but it can't be helped I suppose.

Thanks Toby, your right and I am happy with it but would have been better if I'd potted the last 4 colours for 66  ;)

Jamie Sampson 0-4 Nick Kirkman

We decided to play this match earlier because of other commitments.

Nick opened up the match with a 29 only to rattle a red in the jaws when possibly I could have gone on to make considerably more.
Jamie fought back hard to close the gap,  by the time we got to the colours Nick potted down to the blue leaving Jamie needing two snookers on pink and black soon after Nick potted the pink.

Frame 2 was almost identical to the first frame going down to pink and black Jamie only needing one snooker, Nick potting the pink for the frame.

Frame 3 was very close hardly a point in it all the way through to colours, this time Jamie pots a good blue and rolls the pink in down the cushion leaving himself a tricky black accross the nap into the centre pocket with white tight against the cushion near the corner pocket.
He just misses the pot hitting the jaw of the centre pocket leving the black 6 inches off the baulk cushion between brown and green spots and the white almost going in off over the black pocket.  Nick cued this nicely and clipped the black accross into the green pocket to make it 3-0

Its fair to say at this point Jamie wasn't having a good night missing balls he shouldn't have and possibly Nick was having as much luck as Jamie was having bad luck going in off at critical stages of the match so far.

Final frame, Jamie cracks them open giving Nick his first ever chance of a  maximum break ;) He pots the first red beautifully then misses the black off the spot  Jamie opened up with a very nice 28 mainly low valued colours NIck replied with a 21, it went like this all through the frame neither player making any big breaks. Towards the end Nick holding a small advantage and was awarded an easy red and pink to start and proceeded to take the last red and brown plus yellow, green, brown and blue but missing an easy pink when trying to slam it in the middle pocket to get on the black. Break ending on 26. 4-0

Thanks for the game Jamie and I hope you get some of your form back soon,  your too good not too.
