PREMIER TITLE RACE HOTS UP

Singles League

Nav Hussain ended Jamie Moore’s winning run in the Premier Division with hard fought  draw which has made the top of the division very interesting with 4 players in the hunt.  Defending champion Hussain also enjoyed an important 3-1 win over Neil Elliott to haul himself back into contention.  Chris Winter is currently in superb form and made light work of Zeb Ahmed in a four nil rout which included breaks of 55 & 76.  All eyes will be on Winter & Moore who still have to play each other twice in what will be crucial matches for both players.  Lee Crombie picked up his 2nd win of the season with a classy performance against Neil Elliott knocking in breaks of 30,44 and 50 in the 3-1 win.  In Division 1 the top two players were both held to draws.  Danny Castel-Nuovo salvaged a point by winning the last frame against Toby Irons whilst Malc Belshaw was held by Steve Coleman who will be boosted by the much improved performance which ends a miserable run of frameless losses for the BCI player.  Mike Langdon had a welcome 3-1 home win against Sherwood’s Wayne Bilbie in a mid table clash.  Table topper Paul Bell just keeps ploughing through the field in Division 2 with yet another 4-0 victory over Sean Croft.  The score-line only tells half a story though as it included several black ball frames and it was the defeated Croft who was left scratching his head having been in great form all match impressively knocking in breaks of 22,23,25,30 & 33. Strange Game snooker!  Fellow City Hospital club-mates, Jordan Parnham and Rob Wallace played out a hard fought draw in the only other match to date this week.

CLASSY I’ANSON ROUTS LANGDON

Singles Championship

Beeston Snooker Hall’s Clint I’Anson dispatched Mike Langdon in style to progress into the last 16 of the Singles Championship.  I’Anson opened up the match with a 42 break and never looked back opening up a two frame lead with a huge 124-0 score-line which included a 66 break and a 50 clearance.  He sealed the victory in the final frame with a brilliant clip on the pink into the middle pocket from tight on the baulk cushion.  In what was billed as one of the ties of the round Chris Winter saw off BCI’s Jason Bettridge 3-1 in a match, which failed to ignite.  However one match that did live up to expectations was the one between Stewart Crosswell and Jamie Moore.  Moore had led 2-1 but Crosswell who plays in the Long Eaton league won the final 2 frames to see off the BCI talisman. Tom Walters impressed in his victory over Arnold’s James Notman running out a 3-1 winner with breaks of 61 and 48.  Pegasus pair Chris Brooks & Zeb Ahmed both progress with comfortable 3-0 wins over Clint Broome and Sean Croft respectively with Ahmed making a 50 break in his match.  Paul Bell won by the odd frame in five against Stadium’s Steve Butler whilst Nottingham University’s Alex Smith impressed with an excellent 3-2 win against Jonathan Mason.  BCI Super Elites Captain Kwok Yip enjoyed a good three nil win over team-mate Neil Elliott whilst the much fancied Nav Hussain made sure there was no shock this time by beating Shaun Parkinson by the same score-line.  Beeston’s Neil Jones is also into the hat for the next round after an excellent 3-0 away win against Oakleigh’s Jason Turner.

DEFENDING CHAMP KICK(ed) OUT!

Handicap Singles Championship

Jamie Mathers reign as the Handicap Singles Champion came to an end with a cruel kick on the final black denying him victory over Stadium’s Ross Wilkin.  The impressive Wilkin had stuck with Mathers throughout the match and led the Pegasus player by 24 points going into the colours.  Mathers cleared up brilliantly before fate dealt him the cruel blow leaving Wilkin a simple tap in for a fine victory.  Jamie Moore needed to play well to see off Alex Smith and breaks of 25,37 and a 45 clearance in the final frame saw him home 2-0.  Clint Broome enjoyed an excellent 2-1victory against Beeston’s Andy Spicer whilst Mike Langdon shocked Stewart Crosswell with a trademark fluke on the final black to win by the same score-line. A 31 break from Ash Goring could not save him from defeat against the much-improved Sean Croft who won 2-0 whilst Neil Elliott proved too strong for Alan Cunningham.  Neil Jones and Shaun Parkinson both progressed with 2-0 wins against Kwok Yip and Barrie Towle respectively whilst Wayne Martin came through a tough match against Brendan Murtagh.

BUTLER & HEARSON-ELLIS IN NO MOOD TO GIVE UP CROWN

Handicap Pairs Championship

Defending Pairs Champions Matt Hearson-Ellis & Steve Butler are safely through to the quarter-finals of this years competition after seeing off the 2007 champions Jonathan Mason & Kwok Yip two nil.  The only other known quarter-finalist are the Pegasus pairing of Wayne Martin & Mike Langdon who beat Oakleigh’s Jason Turner & Steve Roe.  A 44 break from Martin followed by a 25 clearance from Langdon sealed the two nil victory.

Other News

Unfortunately we had a couple of no shows at this weeks singles matches and both games have been awarded 4-0 although one of these is under review.  I would like to remind all players that singles league matches are scheduled for 8pm on a Thursday and unless you make contact with your opponent to rearrange, the match is expected to be played on that Thursday and at that time….so make sure you turn up.  If you need to re-schedule and cannot make contact with your opponent then you should ensure that you let me know of the problem before the match is due to be played.

All the draws for the next round of the knock-out competitions have now been made and are available to view on the website.

Cheers
